The world is beautiful in Eleuthera!

The sailing vessel Summer Wind and her crew has been discover the tiny island Eleuthera in the Bahamas. IMG_4823.jpgIf a slower paced, off-the-beaten path trip is what you ŕe looking for, the bohemian vibes of Eleuthera could be the paradise you´re looking for. This is the place to completely unwind and disconnect! Eleuthera define The Bahamas with endless pineapple fields, pink and white sand beaches to secluded coves and miles of coastlines.IMG_5139Eleuthera´s sleepy island “capital” Governor´s Harbour overlooks a broad and handsome harbor, it has some faded architectural reminders of its official stature. Much of the architecture and way of life was influenced by British Loyalists who settled here in the 1700s. This style has since been adopted by others Bahamian islands.IMG_4857IMG_5036IMG_5035The Eleuthera charm us with  approximately 11000 residents. The people who live here either fish for country of farm the rolling across of pineapple plantations. IMG_4871IMG_4870IMG_4868IMG_4874IMG_4888Island Farm was my favorite place on the island to shop for food as they grow everything themselves organically on their farm. They have the most amazing fresh fruits and vegetables, with is so hard to find on the island as everything is imported. They have beautiful looking kale, so many varieties of greens, herbs and amazing fresh fruits and vegetables. They also sell their own delicious homemade Bahamian sauces, pesto from home-grown cilantro, and salsa. Island Farm also bake hot cinnamon rolls and bread twice per week. IMG_5867IMG_5870IMG_5871IMG_5876Most of our stay we cooked delicious fresh food on the boat or eat on the beach.IMG_5868IMG_4841Snorkling on Eleuthera is a fantastic way to experience a colorful, living adventure! The snorkling was wonderful as we enjoyed seeing coral gardens, turtles, and many species of fish.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1225.JPGDCIM100GOPROGOPR0801.JPGProcessed with VSCO with kp9 presetIMG_4886We visited the Hatchet Bay Cave. The rough-stone entrance to this miles-long cave is between Gregory Town and Alice Town, on the southwestern side of the Queen´s Hwy. Several chambers bear charcoal signatures dating back to the mid-19th center, and there are some impressive stalagmites and stalactites.IMG_5080IMG_5081IMG_5084IMG_5087Lovely Eleuthera also harbors boutique hotels, revered surf breaks and some tasty restaurants and small coffee bars.IMG_4909IMG_4911IMG_4910 Eleuthera is generally a very isolated island of casual sophistication, weep-developed resorts, rocky bluffs, low-lying wetlands and massive coral reefs that create magnificent backdrops. The beaches are not populated so endless morning beach hikes without seeing a single soul, except my captain is so special!IMG_4923Processed with VSCO with kp9 preset

For lovers of white sand beaches and easy-going life there may be no better place to explore than lovely, Eleuthera.

Happy Exploring The Bahamas Islands!

Exploring The Bahamas Islands with the sailing vessel Summer Wind.

_MG_2745-2.jpgThe first big leap in the journey to the Bahamas is crossing the Gulf Stream, an ”ocean river” flowing northward at two knots or more with the greatest speeds in the center of the Stream. It is a passage not to be taken lightly by either novices or old salts. When planning the crossing the crew on Summer Wind had a number of factores to consider; wind speed, wind direction and sea state as dictated by current weather system, the optimum crossing angles, preferred departure and arrival point, the speed of the vessel, the choice of a day and night voyage. We decide to departure from Port Carnaveral in Florida and after 19 houers crossing, Summer Wind arrived the West End, Old Town on Grand Bahamas Island.

Next stop, the Abacos is a jewels of islands and cays spread across 120 miles in the northwest of th Islands of the Bahamas. Summer Wind visited the privat island Spanich Cay. We went for a hike along the beautiful island and meet two nice couples from Vermont and Minnesota and invited them over at our boat Summer Wind. They had a lot of experience sailing in the Bahamas and they let us know about many nice places to visit. We `re grateful for the expertice of our freinds who are willing to make our adventourous even better by sharing their knowledge about the beautiful Bahamas Islands.IMG_2977-2

DSC03681.jpgStill getting to know the sailing vessel Summer Wind. As we explore different parts of the vessel, learn the systems and trial different ways to getting things done.

It actually feels homely!
